Brief History Of Asaba | Itan Asaba Ataiyebaiye Ni Soki
The origin of Asaba is based on a number of sources: oral history, archaeological evidence, documentary evidence and extensive research.
Oral history tells us that the Oba Olufaloye founded Asaba in ancient times. Olufaloye emigrated from Ile-Ife due to a feud with his sibling over rights to the throne.
Olufaloye was a man of great strength and a great warrior. Orisa- nla and Ifa were the deities he worshipped and it was from them that he sought guidance and direction at all times.
When he first left Ile-Ife, the deities instructed him to settle at Ikole-Ekiti. We are informed by oral history that he lived for a period of time at Ikole-Ekiti before he was once again instructed by Ifa to leave and head to Ola-Oro with his people. Olufaloye and his people moved as Ifa oracle directed and settled in Ola- Oro, living there for many years.
Ifa yet again instructed the patriarch Olufaloye to leave Ola-Oro and journey to settle where it would be revealed to him. As it is well known, our fore-fathers had in antiquity had great faith in their deities; hence, Olufaloye and his people once again emigrated.
Leaving Ola-Oro they journeyed until Ifa told them to settle at
Oke Odo where the Agbigbo bird sang. When they got to Oke
Odo Abulu, Olufaloye consulted Ifa on whether or not to settle
there. Ifa responded that when they had crossed the Otin river
they should settle at Abulu (near the present day Asi).
Having crossed the Otin river, Olufaloye and his people settled at Abulu just as Ifa had told them.
